Description
This is a true adventure which would include the well-known Sani Pass also refered to as “The Dragon”
Day 1: We meet up in the town of Himeville in the afternoon and spend our first night on a working dairy farm.
Day 2: We have an early departure and after border formalities, we set out to drive “The Dragon”, stopping along the way to take in the scenery. Once we complete border formalities at the Lesotho Border, we make our way to the “Highest Pub in Africa” for a quick bite to eat and something to drink before heading out for the true adventure part of the trip.
We make our way toward the well-known Letseng Diamond Mine BUT…..via lesser known back roads, all the while crossing the river numerous times. The going will be slow but exciting. Our aim would be to make the chalets at Letseng by late afternoon or otherwise the Mapoka Campsite if time allows.
Day 3: After a reasonably leisurely start, we make our way out of the valley, the 9.6km is going to take us between 2 – 3 hours to cover! Once we reach the safety of the tar road again, we work our way to the only operational ski-resort in Africa, AfriSki. We will stop at the resort for a “brunch” break. We then head past Oxbow Lodge heading to the border crossing at Caledonspoort, however before we get there, we have to drive the notorious Moteng Pass.
Our last night of camping will be in Clarens near the well-known Kiara Lodge.
Day 4: Today we start making our way home driving through the beautiful scenic Golden Gate National Park. Sadly time to say our goodbyes.
